No fewer than two Hausa indigenes resident at Oyigbo in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State are feared dead when suspected members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked their base in Oyigbo.
Eye witness account had it that suspected irate IPOB members had on Saturday and Sunday launched coordinated attacks on Hausa residents in Oyigbo.
The eye witness said two persons were feared dead while two other persons sustained serious injury.
“The incident, which looks like a coordinated attack started on Saturday and extended to Sunday. Some youths suspected to be IPOB members invaded the area mostly inhabited by Hausa indigenes and attacked them with dangerous weapons. Two persons were said to have died in the attack while two other persons sustained serious injuries,” he said.
The Spokesman of the Northern community in Rivers State, Alhaji Musa Saidu, who confirmed the incident to our reporter, condemned the attack.
Alhaji Musa Saidu said that the deceased were allegedly attacked and killed by irate youths suspected to be members of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) at Oyigbo.
He said the problem started when the suspected IPOB members armed with dangerous weapons attacked a base in Oyigbo that has a high concentration of Hausa indigenes.
He said that the incident which happened on Saturday and Sunday had 2 Hausa residents who were petty traders killed while two persons sustained life-threatening injuries.
He said that he could not ascertain the reason behind the attack but pointed out that the attack might be an offshoot of previous threats issued to the Hausa community in Rivers State by suspected IPOB members.
He called on the police to step up action and arrest those behind the attack.
Several telephone calls put across to Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni to confirm the story was not successful.
But a source from Rivers State Police Command told our reporter that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan has directed the deployment of police tactical command to restore normalcy in the affected area.
In the meantime, the Chairman of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Prince Gerald Oforji has condemned the attack and appealed to Hausa residents in Oyigbo to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands.

Gunmen in the early hours of Friday invaded Barkallahu , Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, kidnapping seven persons .
Among the seven persons kidnapped , five persons were members of the same family.
The bandits , it was gathered invaded the community about 1 : 30 am on Friday and shot indiscriminately as they went from house – to -house to pick their victims .
A resident, Abdulsalam Haruna , said the gunmen went away with his wife and four children .
Haruna , who spoke to newsmen, said two of the children were students of the Federal University , Malunfashi in Katsina State .
He also said the hoodlums left with two of his neighbour ’s children , adding that the bandits attacked two other houses in the area , including that of a retired director in the Kaduna State Ministry of Education.
Haruna said , “ The incident happened about 1 : 30 am ( on Friday) . They broke my gate and came into my compound . They broke the door to my house and ordered everybody to follow them.
“ They went away with my wife and four of my children , two of which are students of the Federal University , Malumfashi , Katsina State.
“ They also attacked my neighbour and went away with two of his children .
“ Two other houses, including that of a retired director in the Kaduna Ministry of Education , were also attacked , but they did not kidnap anybody or carry anything there .
“ We alerted the personnel but by the time they arrived, the bandits had escaped with the victims .”
The Kaduna State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident as the Public Relations Officer , ASP Mohammed Jalige , could not be reached.
Jalige had also yet to reply to a text message sent to his mobile phone as of the time of filing this report .

Suspected bandits have killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gidan Madi police station in Tangaza local government area of Sokoto state.
The incident happened on Thursday night, September 16. The gunmen also killed another police officer said to be the DPO’s orderly before abducting two wives of a prominent businessman in the area.
According to a source, the marauders struck around 1.am. The policemen were ambushed and killed while trying to rescue the abductees.
Another account said that the bandits first stormed the station, killed the DPO and one inspector of police before abducting the housewives at their residence. It was said that the bandits went away with the guns of the slain officers.
The spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Muhammad Sadiq, who confirmed the attack to Daily Trust, said:
“At the moment, it is confirmed that there was an unwarranted attack on the Gidan Madi Divisional Headquarters last night. I enjoin us all to await further information on the attack at the conclusion of investigation that had already been directed by the Commissioner who is at the moment conducting an on the spot assessment of the Division, please.”
Meanwhile, a member of the community Abdoul said the late DPO died while protecting people from the bandits.
“He died as a MAN. No words can express how i feel towards his departure, I didn’t know him in person, but I knew his commitment to ensure lasting security in my local government,” he wrote.
“He’s got killed by bandits, while trying to protect the life of thousands peoples. He refuse to retreat despite the worsening of the situation, the bandits outnumbered his officers on duty and they were well armed. May your soul rest in jannatul firdausi. DPO_TANGAZA_LGA
