Seven Policemen, Three Soldiers Killed As Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Borno Governor, Zulum’s Convoy
The convoy of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State was again attacked on Friday by Boko Haram terrorists along the Baga Highway in the Northern part of the state.
The convoy was heading to Baga town ahead of government’s planned return of internally displaced persons from Maiduguri when the incident happened.
The attack comes barely two months after Zulum was attacked around the same axis by the insurgents on his way from Baga.
The area is believed to be dangerous and has recorded many abductions by the terrorist group in recent times.
A splinter group of Boko Haram sect, the Islamic State of West Africa Province, is believed to have a stronghold in the area.
The governor was not part of the convoy as he travelled by helicopter but about three soldiers, seven policemen were killed while an unverified number of people were injured.
The attack, it was learnt, happened at about 12pm some kilometers away from the Multinational Joint Task Force headquarters in Baga.

The land and air components of Operation Thunder Strike have neutralised scores of armed bandits during a joint offensive operation on identified bandits ’ camps in the Yadi and Kufai Shantu areas of Giwa Local Government Area , Kaduna State.
The operation was executed on Saturday on the heels of credible human intelligence reports as well as series of aerial surveillance missions that led to the identification of the hideouts of a notorious bandits ’ leader and his fighters .
A statement on Sunday by the Coordinator , Defence Media Operations, Maj . Gen . John Enenche , said the first wave of the airstrikes involved seven Nigerian Air Force aircraft which undertook 12 missions and a total of 23 sorties.
The operation which commenced at dawn targeted a cluster of huts housing notorious bandits ’ leader , Buhari Halilu .
The statement titled , ‘Operation Thunder Strike : Land and air components clear bandits ’ location in Kaduna State , neutralise scores of bandits at Yadi,’ said the attack aircraft destroyed some of the target structures and neutralised several bandits .
Enenche said the second wave of attacks which targeted the bandits ’ hideout at Kufai Shantu , was aimed at incapacitating the hoodlums at the location to reduce resistance to the ground troops advance towards Yadi .
The statement read, “ Following the air component’ s fixing efforts at Kufai Shantu , the land component, supported by an attack helicopter , successfully assaulted Halilu ’s hideout at Yadi, clearing two of three objectives.
“ The ground troops subsequently fought through fierce resistance from bandits hiding under the foliage at the third objective and eventually overpowered the criminals , eliminating several of them .”
It further explained that the air component provided effective support to the ground troops during all phases of the operation .
The military high command commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to remain resolute in the conduct of operations to eradicate bandits .

The troops of Operation Fire Ball have killed 16 Boko Haram / Islamic States for West Africa Province terrorists in recent encounters in the North East theatre of operation .
The Acting Director , Defence Media Operations, Brig .- Gen . Bernard Onyeuko, made this known in a statement on Sunday .
The statement was titled ‘Operation Lafiya Dole : Troops of operation fire ball neutralise several bandits , destroy gun trucks , recover large cache of arms and other items’ .
Onyeuko said that four terrorists ’ gun trucks were destroyed as well as recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunitions during the various encounters .
The statement read in part , “ On 21 October 2020 troops of Special Response Area Gajiram deployed at Check Point three under Sector three decisively dealt a heavy blow on BHT/ISWAP criminal elements.
“ The eagle – eyed troops who were on alert noticed unusual vehicles following the convoy of vehicles conveying Internally Displaced Persons from Maiduguri Cosmopolitan City to Baga town in order to infiltrate own position .
“ The troops canalised the criminals and inflicted heavy casualty on them . After the ensuing firefight three Boko Haram terrorists were neutralised.
“ In a related development, troops of Army Super Camp Magumeri decimated several Boko Haram terrorists who attacked the location . After the fierce encounter, 11 Boko Haram terrorists were neutralised.
“ Similarly , On 24 October 2020 , the gallant troops of Army Super Camp located at Mallam Fatori routed elements of Boko Haram / ISWAP criminal elements who attacked their location . After the fierce battle two Boko Haram terrorists were neutralised, others escaped with gunshot wounds as traces of blood of dragged casualties by the criminals were seen during exploitation . ”
The defence assured populace of the North -East zone of the determination of the High Command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria “ to finally rout out the remnants of the BHT/ ISWAP criminals from their enclaves ” .
