Who has the best squad in Europe this season?

During the summer, we saw most of the spending come from the Premier League, with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona doing very little business, if any.

European champions Bayern Munich have strengthened, while a revolution has taken place at Chelsea.

Here, we analyse the squads for each of Europe’s top 15 clubs and see who has the best line-up going into the 2020/21 season.

Borussia Dortmund
Erling Haaland leads a fearsome front line which also includes Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus, while Thorgan Hazard, Gio Reyna and Reinier Jesus offer something different.

There could be pitfalls in defence for Lucien Favre, who is counting on Mats Hummels to rediscover his best form.

Paris Saint-Germain
Aside from the star-studded attack, PSG have strengthened at the back, with Presnel Kimpembe now charged with leading the defence following the departure of Thiago Silva.

The arrivals of Alessandro Florenzi, Danilo Pereira, Rafinha and Moise Kean boost options but are expected to be squad players.

Real Madrid
After a summer of no signings, there’s not much that has changed in Zinedine Zidane’s line-up this season.

Martin Odegaard has returned from loan to add more quality to the midfield, while Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are expected to step up in their contributions.

Chelsea
The biggest movers of the summer window, Chelsea made a number of exciting signings, such as Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Frank Lampard will hope that the arrivals of Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy will stop his side shipping goals galore.

Arsenal
Mikel Arteta has brought in Thomas Partey, Gabriel and Willian to aid him in his efforts to take Arsenal back into the Champions League.

They could still come unstuck in defence, though, with question marks remaining over David Luiz.

Barcelona
Ronald Koeman has refreshed the Barcelona squad since his appointment, with Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Nelson Semedo adding to the departure list that already included Arthur Melo.

In their places, Francisco Trincao, Pedri and Miralem Pjanic were already tied down, while Sergino Dest has been signed from Ajax and Philippe Coutinho has returned from loan.

Liverpool
The signing of Thiago could take the Premier League champions to the next level, with the Spaniard providing the touch of quality that was missing in their midfield.

Diogo Jota also arrives to provide sturdier back-up should any one of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino get injured.

Manchester United
After their 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham, United rushed into the transfer market on deadline day, coming out with Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani among others.

They join Donny van de Beek as new signings, although the squad is still short of a top centre-back who could solve their defensive problems.

Manchester City
It’s hard to think of ways to improve the attacking side of Pep Guardiola’s squad but Ferran Torres has replaced Leroy Sane in that sense.

As for the defence, it remains to be seen whether Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake’s arrivals can have the desired effect.

Sevilla
The return of Rakitic is the headline from Sevilla’s summer business, although Oscar Rodriguez, Oussama Idrissi, Marcos Acuna and Karim Rekik are smart acquisitions too.

Most importantly for Julen Lopetegui, Los Rojiblancos have kept the bulk of their squad that went on to win the Europa League last season, including Jules Kounde.

Atletico Madrid
Luis Suarez’s move from Barcelona to Atletico was one of the main transfer stories of the window, with the Uruguayan the natural goalscorer that Diego Simeone was crying out for.

The excitement that came with the striker’s arrival was soon dampened by the cheap sale of Thomas Partey when Arsenal triggered his release clause.

Inter
Antonio Conte will be pleased to have kept hold of Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku this summer, with interest from elsewhere particularly high in the former.

Inter have also signed some big names themselves, including Arturo Vidal from Barcelona and the highly rated Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich
The Champions League winners have built on their success, signing wingers Leroy Sane and Douglas Costa.

Marc Roca has arrived to try to replace Thiago, while there are still some concerns over Jerome Boateng and Niklas Sule in defence.

Tottenham
Jose Mourinho has seen all three thirds of the pitch strengthened at Spurs this summer with the signings of Sergio Reguilon in defence, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield and Gareth Bale in attack.

Still with no natural replacement for Harry Kane up front, there are doubts over whether Tottenham can challenge at the top of the Premier League just yet.

Juventus
New head coach Andrea Pirlo has been backed by the club, with Alvaro Morata, Arthur Melo and Federico Chiesa all making the move to Turin.

For veteran defender Giorgio Chiellini and backup goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, this could be their final shot at Champions League glory and, with Cristiano Ronaldo

EnuguEndSARS stray bullet saga: No governor orders the military – Army officer
*We were mobilized to protect school girls from hoodlums, criminals
*Miscreants killed, burnt policemen, stations, others
One of the soldiers mobilized by the military to protect the innocent female students at Queens School Enugu, last Saturday, following a security report that armed hoodlums and criminals parading themselves as #EnuguSARS protesters wanted to invade the school in search of COVID-19 palliatives, has opened up on what transpired, contrary to the stories being peddled on the social media.
The soldier who spoke to our correspondent in confidence disclosed that there was no directive from anybody, as being mischievously peddled on social media, to shoot or kill the hoodlums and criminals who in their numbers, some with weapons, attempted to overpower the security agencies and forcefully invade the school, where the young girls are staying.
The military officer stated categorically that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi did not give them any directive, explaining that “what happened was a case of stray bullet which the hoodlums themselves have questions to answer “because they had dangerous weapons like guns as they were forcefully approaching us to overpower us and go into that school where these girls we were ask to protect were”.
It would be recalled that the principal of Queens School Enugu, Mrs. Ada Nweke, had in a video, sent SOS to the security agencies to come to the rescue of the traumatized girls following the forceful attempt by the hoodlums and criminals to invade the school.
Mrs. Nweke who stated that there were no COVID-19 palliatives still in the school as they had been distributed to the 17 Local Government Areas in August, stressed that “we don’t want what happened to the Chibok girls to happen to these students”.
Prior to the alarm raised by the principal, it was widely reported that the hoodlums and criminals’ aim was to invade the school, in the disguise of #EndSARS protest looking for palliatives, and then rape and kidnap the female students similarly to what happened to the Chibok girls.
When asked who then directed them to mobilize to the school, the officer said: “This question has a straight answer. The world knows where we take directives from. The military just like other security agencies are exclusively under the control of the federal government and we take instructions from our heads.
“So I don’t know what you mean whether it was the governor that directed us or not. We know who directs us, and even you here asking me this kind of question know too. No governor directs the military or its officers. Please take this message home and stop asking such questions”.
On the 24-hour curfew imposed, the soldier pointed out that “it was unfortunate that these people refused to stay at home and obey the curfew imposed by the state government. They saw us pleading with them to go home but they kept forcing their way to overpower us.
“Are you not aware that these miscreants killed two policemen in this state and burnt one in the process of this protest? They burnt police stations, looted and destroyed a lot of properties belonging to innocent people.
“What have you said about it? Did you report it? Did you see it circulated anywhere on social media by those peddling these lies against the governor and security agencies. Or are security personnel not human beings like you?
“So if a security man is killed by hoodlums it is not news worthy to be spread on this una social media?
“Please go and advise these youths to stop exposing themselves to dangers because as I am talking to you here, a directive has come from the Presidency again that both the military and police should mobilize across the country to stop these lootings, killings and destruction of public and private property.
“Go and warn them before they start accusing the state governors or other persons”.

“The governor also wants the security agents to carry out a house to house search for looted property and arrest everyone involved in the looting of both public and private property in the state”.
Ayade said he understands the pains of the people and there was need to protect the collective commonwealth of the people which is currently under threat by some persons who are desperately trying to discredit the peaceful disposition of Cross Riverians.
He urged the security agencies to “take legitimate actions to ensure that calm returns to the State especially as the Government was already working towards ensuring the demands of those who genuinely participated in the #EndSARS match are met”.
The Governor called on Cross Riverians to rise up and defend their land from criminal elements bent on destroying the image of the State.
The governor said the dusk to dusk curfew was still in place but this time around it is and “consequent upon this, everyone is advised to remain indoors as security agencies will not tolerate any non compliance”.
